A frigate and a corvette were due to complete the Myanmar navy’s first port call at India’s Visakhapatnam on Sunday in keeping with the stepped-up bilateral military ties between the two countries, The Times of India reported.

Quoting Indian Defence Ministry officials, the report on Friday said warships from India and Myanmar are now set to conduct joint exercises and coordinated patrols in the Bay of Bengal a few days later.

“This first-ever such exercise comes soon after [India’s] defence minister A K Antony visited Myanmar in January to bolster defence ties, ranging from better border management to capacity-building'' of the Myanmar armed forces, the report said.
