Hospital agrees to drop lawsuit against Hot News journal

New Delhi (Mizzima) - The lawsuit against the Hot News journal in Rangoon will be dropped in return for running an article about SSC Hospital services.

Hot News Chief Editor Hay Mar  Photo: MizzimaAn agreement between the two sides was reached this week in a libel suit that sought 2 billion kyat as compensation.

The lawyer for the hospital, Ye Myint, told Mizzima: “After mediation by a person who does not want both sides to suffer losses, an agreement was reached. Hot News journal agreed to conduct interviews with the hospital staff and to publish the information in the journal.”

The agreement was reached during the second meeting between Hot News chief editor Hay Mar aka Ma Ma, officials from the hospital and SSC shareholder Aung Ko Win, who is the owner of Kanbawza Bank.

Ye Myint said the hospital would also drop another libel suit filed against the journal on August 5 that was scheduled for a hearing.

Hay Mar is a daughter of retired Lieutenant General Khin Maung Than. She is also the executive editor of Payphoohlwar Magazine and the publisher of Faces Magazine.
