Revocation of suspension of Daw Myint Myint Aye demanded

New Delhi (Mizzima) - A review and revocation of the party leadership’s decision to suspend Meiktial Township National League for Democracy (NLD) party Secretary Daw Myint Myint Aye for a year for flouting party discipline has been demanded by two township level party leaders.

Wandwin Township NLD Branch Secretary U Tun Tun and Meiktila Township Vice-Chairman U Thein Aung have protested against the disciplinary action by the party disciplinary committee.

“Suspension of Daw Myint Myint Aye is extremely inappropriate. So we invite senior leaders and party disciplinary committee members to come to our district party branch where we can resolve the problem peacefully. We will demand they rescind their disciplinary action,” U Tun Tun told Mizzima.

Party Vice-Chairman U Tin Oo and other senior party leaders should come to Meiktila District party branch office to resolve the problem and foster party unity, Meiktila Township party branch Vice-Chairman U Thein Aung said.

“There are three levels from the grassroots to the central to take action on me. Both township and district level party organizing committees didn’t investigate. The Central Disciplinary Action Committee did not summon and investigate me either. Till date there has been no investigation and I was not allowed to defend myself,” Daw Myint Myint Aye said.

But U Thein Nyunt from the Central Party Disciplinary Committee said that they took action on her based on their findings on the correspondence between responsible party officials from Mandalay Division party committee and her.

“In the committee, U Than Tun is the team leader and I and U Tun Tun Aye are members. The party CEC assigned us to investigate this as an appeal case based on her letters submitted to party higher officials. We examined all letters submitted by Daw Myint Myint Aye and Mandalay Division party committee and only after that, we suspended her from the secretary’s post for a year,” he said.

“We sent each copy of our final decision to both Daw Myint Myint Aye and Mandalay Division party organizing committee. In an appeal case, we don’t need to summon her to our office and examine her. We took our decision based on her letters sent to party higher officials. We didn’t investigate the original case, this is an appeal case. We took a decision on the appeal case in accordance with our party constitution, regulation and procedures based on the findings in her letters,” he added.

“Disciplinary action was taken a long time ago. The party CEC just confirmed the disciplinary action taken by grassroots and the divisional party committee. The grassroots party committee took action against her for violating party discipline. Similarly action was taken against U Myat Hla from Pegu by suspending him from the party post for one year after he demanded that party Chairman U Aung Shwe resign from his post in April last year,” party CEC member U Win Tin said. U Myat Hla is Pegu Division Party Chairman and Divisional Organizing Committee member.

Daw Myint Myint Aye talked to the media and expressed her opinion on reconstituting the party Central Committee (CC), enlarging the party Central Executive Committee (CEC) and convening a party congress with delegates elected by party grassroots organizations on 6 October last year.

A similar demand on convening a party congress was made on 23 November by 178 party organizing committee members from different levels of party branches in five Divisions namely Irrawaddy, Mandalay, Magwe, Pegu and Rangoon, including party MPs, secretaries and organizing committee members of these party branches. The Meiktila party branch organizing committee was among them.

After which the Mandalay Divisional party committee framed charges against its party members on grounds of violating party discipline and dividing party unity. The charge sheet was submitted to party headquarters in Rangoon. Party Chairman U Aung Shwe signed the order for action against Daw Myint Myint Aye on February 13 by suspending her from the party post for one year and made her an ordinary party member.

Disciplinary action has been taken against over 100 party members for violating party rules and regulations, it is learnt.
