NLD challenges electoral laws in court

Chiang Mai (Mizzima) - Burma’s major opposition party the National League for Democracy (NLD) on Tuesday challenged the electoral laws promulgated by country's military government in court.

The decision to challenge the electoral laws legally was taken at the meeting of the Central Executive Committee members of the NLD on Tuesday.

A NLD CEC member, Ohn Kyaing said “the clauses in the election law are unfair, so the NLD went to the Supreme Court against the election law according to Act (45). Aung Shwe, NLD president, Nyan Win and Kyi Win, lawyers of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi went to the Supreme Court.

The Kachin’s last stand
Since October this year, Burma has been in a state of civil war, with fighting between Burmese military and armed ethnic rebels. The ruling junta started a crackdown on these armed groups.
